Working from direct observation, these paintings explore atmosphere, scale, and perception. Fragments of vegetation and traces of human presence appear as dark silhouettes against expansive fields of color, functioning as frames through which the sky is experienced.
Influenced by a sculptural understanding of negative space, Tinkham treats these forms as spatial devices that define the openness surrounding them. Though rooted in specific locations, the paintings move beyond representation through selective cropping and abstraction.
The titles reference each location's elevation above sea level, anchoring the work to a measurable point on the earth. Against this fixed marker, the sky remains in continual transition. Across the series, the paintings consider the relationship between what can be located and measured and what remains expansive, shifting, and beyond containment.
