Graceful Grebe
Just Grebe It! The Nike "Swoosh" inspired this form. While picking up debris after a significant flood, I noticed that the most striking brands tended to correspond with the most plentiful trash. I decided to create a piece that combined a strong cultural brand design with an often-overlooked bird species.
The Graceful Grebe is made from two pieces of white pine, and though it appears very delicate, it is quite sturdy. The eyes are old duck decoy eyes from a now-defunct decoy company. The front of the bird is painted in a rich mixture of oil and alcohol stains. Flowing rings of wood grain highlight the serpentine shape of the bird from the rump up to the neck. Part of the rump, the back, and the head are painted in oils mixed from raw pigment powder. Some artist oils were used for the head. Signed "TINK" underneath. Approx. 10" tall, 4.25" wide, and 3" deep.

Alert Guinea
The Alert Guinea highlights the thin neck and plump body of this quirky bird species. The Guinea is constructed out of Pine, Atlantic White Cedar, and Basswood. The body is carved from log home cut-offs originating from upstate NY. Atlantic White Cedar, which was buried at an old sawmill site in Knotts Island, NC, was used to make the head and neck. The “mohawk” is carved from a Basswood scrap. The eyes are antique doll eyes. Threaded rod was used for the legs. Molten pewter was poured into a hand-carved wooden mold to create the feet. The toenails are shaped from copper grounding wire. The base is shaped from a yellow pine scaffolding platform. The sculpture is painted in oils that were mixed from scratch using pigment powders, and some artist oils were used. Signed "TINK" under the base. Approx. 19” tall, 10” wide, and 7.5” deep on the base.
Guinea Found a Cricket
Not even Jiminy Cricket is safe from the stomach of a Guinea. This Cricket is carved out of Maple studio scraps. Piano wire was used for the legs and antennae. Laughing Gull
This elegant Laughing Gull is a wonderful accent piece. The gull is sculpted out of white pine log home cutoffs from the Adirondacks. The eyes are onyx jewelry beads. The piece is painted in oils that are mixed from scratch using pigment powders. The back has a professional grade natural furniture finish, which gives a glimpse into the beauty of the raw material. Signed "TINK" underneath. The Laughing Gull is approx. 17" tall, 5.5" wide, and 5.5" deep.

Sweet Siamese
This Siamese cat is carved entirely out of magnolia tree branches that were collected after Hurricane Hermine. In a puzzle-like fashion, the pile of branches was meticulously fitted and pieced together. The entire attitude of this cat stems from one-of-a-kind natural curves of the large and small tree branches. A nice rasp texture shows the craftsmanship of the piece. The cat whiskers are inserted pieces of horsehair. The glass eyes were saved from decoy restoration projects- the paint was stripped and they were painted a light blue. The base is carved out of scaffolding, which was collected in Norfolk, VA. The piece is painted in oils that were mixed from scratch using raw pigment powders. Signed "TINK" under the base. Approx. 10" wide and 15" tall.
