Contemporary Sculpture
Spencer Tinkham finely sculpts animals with a hint of human emotion out of discarded wood, metal, and non-recyclable materials. To find these materials, he scavenges dumpsters, junkyards, and shorelines. Taking a renaissance approach, he mixes his oil paints from raw pigment powders. This allows Spencer to manipulate the finishes to highlight the character of both the animals and the found materials. Spencer's unique works frequently draw inspiration from Modern, surrealist, and folk art styles, while also pulling from literature and current events.
